How the Rules of Golf Solitaire Work

Golf Solitaire uses a regular deck of 52 cards. First, the cards are dealt into seven columns. Each column has five cards, all face up. These cards are called the tableau. The game ends when you can’t make any more moves, and the stock pile is empty. Most scoring systems count how many cards are left in the tableau. Fewer cards mean a better score.

There’s no extra reward for finishing fast, so it’s better to focus on smart moves than speed. Try to plan ahead, so you can clear as many cards as possible before running out of options.

Some versions of Golf Solitaire use extra rules to make the game more interesting. One popular version allows wrapping, where a King can be followed by an Ace, and an Ace can be followed by a 2 or a King.

Kings and Aces are special. They can only connect to one other card, a Queen or a 2. If you use them too soon, you might miss a chance to play them in a better sequence. Hold off unless you’re sure it’s the best move.
